Garages today are not merely places to store vehicles out of the weather. Garages have also become the workshops of most homes and are decorated with floor coverings and cabinets to make them look like part of the house. They can be separate buildings from the house, but the blueprints for most modern homes have a garage attached to the house making it more accessible for the homeowner.
Most people use the garage as a storage area and to keep it looking tidy they have all manner of storage systems, such as overhead storage units, shelving units, cabinets, hooks and of course the versatile workbench. The garage door usually compliments the exterior of the house and owners can choose from a wide variety of colors and designs of the door. They also have automatic garage door openers to make it more convenient to bring their car into the garage using a remote control to open and close the door.
Flooring for a garage has come a long way from the simple raw concrete. Many people choose to paint the garage floor, but the many different types of flooring now suitable for use in a garage tend to make the garage looking more like a comfortable room. The options for floors include roll out strips that blend together for a seamless deign or interlocking tiles where owners can create their own designs. Both of these options are easy to install and owners do not have to do a lot of work in preparing the concrete beforehand.
It used to be common to find a garage large enough to accommodate one vehicle, but now the need for larger space has led to having a garage that can accommodate at least two vehicles as well as a boat or an RV. Other types of recreational vehicles such as ATV's and snowmobiles need storage space, which has led to the need for a larger garage.
