Free garage plans
The free garage plans that you get when you purchase a kit containing all the materials you need to build a garage are much easier to read because they include the instructions to help you put each piece in place. They are compliant with all building codes and the plans include everything you need to get an estimate of how much it will cost you to build the garage.
However, you don't have to buy the materials from the same place you get the free plans you need. There are many online retailers that provide one or two garage plans for consumers to download to their computers. These plans usually include
- Detailed floor, roof and foundation plans at ¼ inch scale
- Cross section and other details you will need
- Exterior elevations
- Beam calculations
- Material list and specifications
You simply take the plan you like to your regular lumber supplier to get a quote for the cost of the materials. You don't even need to take in the plans with you – just copy the list of materials and bring this in. If you want, you can also purchase the materials as you need them, but you will often get a much better price by purchasing everything you need at the same time. You can make arrangements with the supplier to only deliver the material as you need it, rather than having a pile of lumber sitting in your driveway for any length of time.
When you look online for free plans, you will find many different designs – single or double car garages or two story structures. You can take the various designs and combine them to have a truly unique garage.
