Garage additions

Garage additions are an excellent way to add living space to your home or your workshop area. If you already have an attached garage, adding a second story to the garage is a way of adding an extra bedroom or a den to the home. Most people use extra space in a garage as an office or a studio or even as an apartment when you have family coming to visit.

When you want to add to your existing garage, you have to make it look as of it was part of the original construction. Sometimes when people add on to the side of the garage, they forget that they have to make changes to the placements of windows and doors on the front and the back of the house. Simply adding on without making changes can give the appearance of a shed tacked onto the garage. If you move the front door, you can increase the size of the foyer in your home by moving the garage door over so that it is centered in the middle of the entire garage. If you make an addition to have space for a second car, it looks really nice when you add a second garage door with space in between the two doors.

When adding to a garage, you also have to look at the roofline. Most people don't look at this aspect of the addition and don't realize how important it is until they have the job finished and the outside of the house doesn't look as nice as they had planned. If you have a split level house and make additions to only one side of the house, it will make the house look as if it isn't centered. If you add a garage to the other side of the house, you have to make sure that the roof is the same on both sides of the two story section of the house.
