Garage Kits

If you want to build a garage, but are not sure where to start or how much material you need, you should look at one of the many different garage kits that are available. When you want to build a detached building, these kits include all the pre-cut lumber and the plans that you need. These kits are available at many lumberyards and home improvement centers and even the roofing materials are included in the kits. The only thing that you have to supply yourself is the foundation.

The kits to help you build your own garage usually come in standard sizes and to save you the added expense of wasted material, the lumber comes in 4 foot increments, such as 20 x 24 or 24 x 24. There are pieces that you will have to cut yourself, but most of the preparation work and the pre-cutting is already done for you. A typical kit includes the plans, all framing lumber; roof trusses; siding and sheathing; roofing materials; and usually a roll-up door, a swinging door, and at least one window. Wall studs are pre-cut to length, sheet siding is sized to the wall heights, and trusses are sized to the width of the building

When you order a kit all the materials you need are delivered to your door in stages so that you wonтАЩt have a pile of lumber sitting in the driveway or backyard for a long period of time. When you get the foundation ready, you can get the materials that you need to frame out the garage and put the roof on. As you proceed through the construction, you just have to let the dealer know when to deliver the materials you need to proceed to the next stage. It is a big project and you will not be able to have the garage constructed overnight. If you are just starting with carpentry work, the job may seem a little intimidating at first. However, the plans are usually so well laid out that once you get started you should not have any difficulty.
