Garage Storage

When you run out of places to put things in your garage, it is time to start considering some garage storage options. Organizing a garage so that you have optimum room for storage is a tiresome task that most garage owners put off for as long as possible.  You can build shelves of all kinds or purchase pre-fabricated shelves. You can also install cabinets along one wall – usually the back wall of the garage. The space available for storage in a garage is often limited and it is the place where most of what you don't have room for in the house finds its way.

There is only so much floor space and most of this is taken up with a vehicle. When you take advantage of the wall space and the ceiling space, you will be able to have a functional garage where you can store a lot of things. When you stop to consider all the things that are usually stored in a garage – shovels, lawn mower, gardening tools, sports equipment, children's toys, and bicycles, you do need to have a lot of storage space. In addition to all these things, the garage often doubles as a workshop with lots of saws and woodworking tools.

If you use bicycle racks on the wall or the ones that hang from the ceiling, this gives you a lot of room on the floor. Shelving that goes from the floor to the ceiling can hold a lot of tools and is quite sturdy because it is supported by the floor. Overhead storage gets things up out of the way and if you have a sturdy stepladder you won't have a problem reaching up to get what you need.

Another storage option is to fabricate an upper loft to the garage for storing seasonal items. You only need to take out one lot of things and replace them with the ones you won't be using for a while and have lots of room in the main part of the garage.
